The PowerShot Pro90 IS offers the highest digital resolution in its class with 1,856 (H) x
1,392 (V) pixels recorded, which is very suitable for prints from postcard size to 8"
x 10". Plus, you’ll get just as brilliant results from close-ups as you do from
landscapes. How? Canon Know-How has developed a high-resolution all-glass lens with a 10x
zoom range for near and far distances.
Canon has also added a "flash" white balance setting to the usual palette of 4
settings. But because every cloud has a silver lining, you may want to customize your own
white balance. In the white paper shooting mode, you can tailor make your own white
balance and store the setting into the camera’s memory even after it’s turned
off.
The CCD Raw Mode preserves the image’s original quality with reversible lossless
compression while enabling post-exposure manipulation of white balance, contrast,
sharpening and saturation.
Full Array of Functions
The numerous features conform to your various creative needs with that
level of sophistication you’re looking for. There’s a wider platform of manual
settings. AE modes allow you to select aperture priority as well as shutter priority,
offering better control depth-of-field, subject motion, and brightness. If you adjust one,
the camera offsets the other for you. Or if you prefer to use your own exposure meter,
feel free to go completely manual and adjust apertures and shutter speed to your heart's
content.
From time to time, you'll find yourself in a situation where auto-focus just isn’t
possible. Whether it's due to low contrast, low light, or multiple subjects, manual
focusing may turn out to be the best option. Once you’ve established a focusing
distance, the Pro90 will lock in that setting. And if you’re encountering under/over
exposuring, use exposure compensation or flash exposure compensation to control
brightness.
For your convenience, the Pro90 IS offers 12 EOS-based picture-taking modes broken into
Creative Zone for manual control, Image Zone for popular photo specialties like portraits
or landscapes, or Auto for point-and-shoot simplicity. If you want to see how different
exposure levels affect image quality, then use the Auto Exposure Bracketing. A single
press of the shutter release records 3 images at various exposure settings to let you pick
the shot you like best.

Like a video camera, the PowerShot Pro90 IS can record a QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) video
clip (with sound) at 15 frames per second for up to thirty seconds. Then you can play back
your home movies (at fast forward speed if you like) on the built-in LCD monitor or even
on your TV! It even offers video output in either NTSC or PAL, allowing playback abroad.
The Pro90 IS is equipped with a built-in flash sporting 5 control modes. Use manual or
auto settings to control red-eye reduction. Flash off and slow synchro settings are also
available for special effects.
Now you can take your time posing for that self-portrait. Or snap a dozen family photos
without re-setting the timer. That’s because the Pro90 IS can use a Wireless Remote
Control device that enables you to take your shots from anywhere. And when you're done,
you can use it to put on a "slide show" for your friends. And for the ultrazoom,
the Pro90 IS’s Digital Teleconverter feature magnifies the 10x zoom by four times to
max out its digital zoom at an eye-popping 40x!
Operation Ease
Taking greater control could not be easier! A rotating LCD monitor
allows you to take pictures from any angle. It also has LCD readout for clarity. The
eye-level viewfinder is electronic, which eliminates any threat of parallax in your
perspective and shows you the effect of the Image Stabilization.
All controls are logically placed throughout the camera for ease. Dials are stacked on top
of each other; the zoom ring is as steady as it is precise. The menu display is easy to
read and simple to use. Usually reserved for videocameras, the Pro90 has continuous AF,
maintaining a steady and constant focus if you’re using a longer focal length.
Breeze through all these functions as they are all powered by Canon Know-How. A digital
signal processing IC ensures a ready response. When used in tandem with the Buffer memory,
a short shooting interval is achieved.
The PowerShot Pro90 IS conveniently allows one to playback images in various countries
since one can set its video output format to either NTSC or PAL.
Innovative Design
The PowerShot Pro90 IS incorporates an innovative design structure.
Utilizing an L-shaped layout design emphasizing the lens, it bolsters high image quality.
And with a rounded finish for a sure grip, the Pro90 projects a new product image. It also
has a high quality feel from its molded exterior, an ergonomic form, and high quality
metallic rubber finish. If it had wings, it might even fly.
System Accessories
The wide converter lens and the close-up lens will really help you get
the most of your PowerShot Pro90 IS. The wide converter lens WC-DC58 converts the focal
length by about 0.8x, and the 58mm Close-up lens 500D enables shooting as close as 13.4in
(34cm) at the telephoto end. And, a hot shoe for external Speedlites (220EX, 420EX, 550EX)
allows E-TTL autoflash control and creative shooting. And for road trips, the Charge
Adapter/Car Battery Cable Kit CR-560 enables the lightweight lithium-ion battery to be
recharged in your car.
Customized Application Software
The PowerShot Pro90 IS is equipped with Canon's own Remote Capture
software that enables the camera to be controlled by a Power Mac or Windows PC with USB.
Using the supplied interface cable, the following operations can be activated by remote
control: lens zooming, flash mode, image quality and of course shutter release. Image
files can be recorded without a memory card directly to the PC, or recorded in the camera
and the PC sequentially.
With Canon ZoomBrowser EX, Windows users can download, upload and archive images, adjust
contrast, saturation and cropping, automatically attach images to an e-mail message, and
playback a slide show. ImageBrowser software performs similar functions for Mac users.
Canon PhotoRecord (for WINDOWS only) is a printing utility program that allows even
beginners to produce high-quality enlargements with automatic background templates plus
titles and captions.
Canon PhotoStitch (for Mac and Windows) works
together with the Pro90 IS’s Stitch Assist function to produce seamless panoramas.
The program supports QuickTime VR for 360-degree animation, and there’s even an
option for cylindrical on-screen display.
Canon TWAIN Driver (for Windows users) and
Plug-in Module (for Mac users) are used for downloading images directly to compatible
image editing software such as Adobe’s popular Photoshop and Photoshop LE.
In addition to all the software listed above,
the PowerShot Pro90 IS is supplied with a complimentary copy of Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE
(for Mac and Windows) for comprehensive image manipulation. |
