Olympus/Polariod Announce Joint Venture |
| MELVILLE, N.Y. and CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- July 25, 2000 -- Olympus, Inc. and Polaroid Corporation (NYSE: PRD) today jointly announced the introduction of the first digital photo printing camera in North America. Leveraging the strengths of both companies, the new C 211 Zoom will offer filmless digital camera capture with a built-in instant photo printer, creating a new imaging category, "digital photo printing cameras." Building on the Olympus tradition of quality digital cameras, the C-211 ZOOM offers a 2.1 megapixel camera with 1600 x 1200 resolution for optimum image quality. Other imaging technologies featured in the digital camera include: 3x optical glass zoom; 2x digital zoom; 2-inch LCD monitor for easy viewing and playback in any condition. The camera offers Tiff and JPEG for still images and QuickTimeTM Movie modes for maximum flexibility and fun with a digital camera. In addition, the C-211 ZOOM comes with a 8MB SmartMedia removable memory card allowing for increased levels of picture storage and capture. The C-211 ZOOM also features USB connectivity for both Mac and Windows computers. The C-211 ZOOM has a Polaroid 500 Print Engine, uses Polaroid 500 Captiva print cartridges at a cost of about $.65-.70 per print. The print size is 2 1/4 x 2 7/8 inches. Continuous tone prints are waterproof, come out of the camera in 15 seconds and fully develop in 2 minutes. You can print a single image, index prints with 4 or 9 images or crop in-camera before printing with 1.5x, 2.0x, 2.5x or 3x. Print adjustments - Color balance, sharpness, contrast, and brightness. Polaroid 500 film has its own battery so camera runtime is not affected by printing. The C-211 ZOOM will be available in the U.S. through authorized Olympus dealers and select camera and computer stores in October 2000 with a suggested list price of $799. The C-211 ZOOM ships with 8MB SmartMedia card, Polaroid Type 500 film pack, (2) LB-01 long-life lithium batteries, Camedia Master software, Mac/Windows USB cable, strap, instruction manual and quick start guide. |
